Nottingham Forest “pushing” for Navas deal

Nottingham Forest may still be in with a chance of signing Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Keylor Navas, with Steve Cooper‘s side chasing a replacement for the injured Dean Henderson.

What’s the word?

According to Fabrizio Romano, the City Ground club are still attempting to strike a deal for the Costa Rica international before the end of the transfer window, despite reports earlier in the day which suggested that the Garibaldi were being “frustrated” in their bid to sign the 36-year-old.

Taking to Twitter regarding that developing story, Romano stated: “Nottingham Forest are pushing again to get Keylor Navas deal done on loan. It’s still on with Paris Saint-Germain now to make final decision on salary share. Keylor wants the move, it’s up to PSG”.

It was subsequently reported on Sky Sports [via Football Daily] that there is “optimism” about a loan move for the remainder of the season being agreed at some stage tonight.

Imagine him and Felipe

This report comes amid claims that Atletico Madrid centre-back Felipe is also set to join Forest, with the 33-year-old having been pictured arriving for his medical ahead of that imminent transfer.

Managing to strike a deal for both the Brazilian ace and Navas would provide Cooper with two hugely experienced figures to help in the club’s bid for top-flight survival. Those astute moves are seemingly set to bolster a backline which has shipped 34 Premier League goals already this season – the fourth-worst record in the division.

In the case of Felipe, the former Porto centre-back would certainly be able to provide real quality to Forest’s defensive unit, as showcased by his ranking in the top 4% among those in his position in Europe for both blocks and clearances made.

Do you want NFFC to sign Keylor Navas?

Having that committed and determined presence ahead of a goalkeeping “monster” – as described by NBC’s Joe Prince-Wright – such as Navas could well prove to be a match made in heaven, with the Costa Rican ranking in the top 1% for save percentage and the top 9% for clean sheet percentage in Europe’s top five leagues over the past 12 months.

The 110-cap veteran has endured a difficult stint at the Parcs des Princes of late after losing his place to Italian powerhouse Gianluigi Donnarumma, having failed to make a single appearance in Ligue 1 or the Champions League this season. However, he has kept 50 clean sheets in just 108 games during his time in France.

The ex-Levante man had previously been an integral figure during his spell at former club Real Madrid, winning a plethora of major honours with the La Liga giants, including  three successive Champions League triumphs between 2016 and 2018.

To be able to secure the services of two players who have a winning habit engrained into them – with Felipe also having won league titles in Spain, Portugal and Brazil – should be a real masterstroke for Cooper and co if they pull it off before 11pm.
